Product profile: Smart, simple hot water
The move to electrification has meant a focus on heat pump water heaters, but for many they may not be the most economical choice (more on this in a later issue!). Thermann have realised this and introduced their Smart Electric Storage hot water system.
As you can guess from the name, it is basically a single-element electric storage unit with added smart controls. This allows for easy control of the unit for making best use of excess solar generation or for operation at times of lowest tariff pricing.
The difference between this unit and a regular storage unit controlled by a simple timer is flexibility. With the app you can turn the system on and off at will (such as when you need extra hot water for visitors staying over) and reprogram it without having to mess with a timer in the breaker box. The system also records energy used, allowing monitoring of real-time and accumulated energy consumption, including accumulated cost. You can also choose from one of four operating modes on the fly—the system can even learn the household hot water usage patterns and reduce heating time to suit.
The system comes in 250 and 315 litre models, both with a 3kW element.
