Product profile: Australia gets fireflies!
But not the insect kind! Chinese EV manufacturer Nio recently released their Firefly small hatchback EV and have wasted no time pushing it to international markets, including Australia, with two variants to be offered here.
This cute little four-metre-long hatchback has distinctive triple light clusters both front and rear, so is immediately recognisable. It comes with a huge 91 litre frunk, along with a 60/40 splitfold rear seat, so is a versatile load carrier as well as a people carrier.
Both models of the Firefly come with a rear-mounted 105kW motor powered by a 42.1kWh LFP battery giving a WLTP range of 330km. The battery can charge at 7kW/11kW AC (single/three-phase) or up to 100kW on a DC fast charger, and the battery uses Nio’s swappable battery technology, although there are currently no battery swapping stations operating in Australia.
Other features include a vegan fabric/leather interior, a very tight 9.4 metre turning circle, auto parking assist, active lane change, adaptive cruise control, V2L capability, front and rear seat under-seat storage compartments, and a 5-Star Euro-NCAP safety rating.
