Solar training at Tibar

Renew’s International Projects Manager Harry Andrews is in Timor-Leste right now working on our Solar for Timor project. Here’s an update from the project’s last few months.

Eight students from Baguia in the Baucau district and Atauro Island are currently undertaking solar training at the premises of our partner, Centro Nacional de Emprego e Formação Profissional, IP, just outside of Timor-Leste’s capital, Dili. These trainings are being conducted in the solar training centre that’s Renew helped CNEFP build and the curriculum Renew developed with CNEFP.

The trainees will get hands on experience in November and December when installing 12 systems on schools, health clinics and community buildings in Baguia and Atauro. Local skills are critical for ongoing sustainability of the projects.

This year’s projects have been made possible with funding from Renew’s Gift of Light donations, the Andrew McNaughtan Foundation and an anonymous supporter of Renew’s work in Timor-Leste. Renew’s grant from Australian Ethical also helps fund this training.

Our work in Timor-Leste wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our donors. You can donate here to allow us to support more remote Timorese villages.
