This session will tell the story of the establishment of the Goulburn Community Energy Cooperative and its offspring project – Clean Energy for Goulburn (CE4G). The project has just met its initial funding targets and will be moving into the construction phase in the near future. The GCEC Vice President, Ed Suttle, and Jonathan Prendergast, from development partner, Komo Energy, will outline how the group began, its aims and benefits for the local investors and community, financing and grant application procedures, and technical information relating to the system design and grid integration. The project will incorporate energy storage within its scope.

This seminar will be a must-see for like-minded individuals and groups who are considering negotiating the often-difficult terrain of small-medium-scale community renewable energy projects.  Community and neighbourhood-scale renewables will be a major force shaping the supply and storage landscape in the coming years. This seminar will offer valuable advice to new players who are wishing to avoid the start-up pitfalls.

Speakers:

Ed Suttle

Let’s be clear: until becoming involved with Community Energy for Goulburn (CE4G) in 2016 Ed had zero background or knowledge of renewable energy, solar farms, connections to the grid etc. Like others, he had huge frustrations with political inactivity at all levels, but no practical experience to contribute. As President of CE4G Ed was a member of a dedicated volunteer committee that has taken the concept of a Goulburn community-owned solar farm from a kitchen table thought bubble to today: tender documents from EPC head contractors are being assessed to build Australia’s largest community-owned dispatchable solar farm.
