Inquiry into Renewable Energy in Victoria

There is no pathway to net zero emissions in Victoria that doesn’t include getting our homes off gas. The residential sector makes up over 40% of gas demand in Victoria – overwhelmingly used for heating and hot water.

The good news is that there are clear alternatives to gas. All-electric homes powered by renewable energy are already accessible and are already saving residents money on energy bills.

The Environment and Planning Committee of Victoria’s Legislative Council is conducting an inquiry into renewable energy in Victoria.

Renew calls on the Victorian government for a strategy to substitute residential gas that leaves nobody behind. This means ending new gas connections, improving how we build our homes, and tackling the barriers to renewable energy-powered homes faced by renters and social housing residents.
