Product profile: Low cost e-bikes

There are many e-bikes on the market, and usually, the higher the price, the better the bike, but that’s not always true. One brand, Leitner, has become known for good reviews (check them out at bit.ly/Leitner-reviews) without breaking the bank.

A great example is their 700c Ultimate Midstep e-bike. It features high-grade Samsung batteries hidden in the frame which provide up to 80km of pedal-assist range.

The battery powers a 36V, 250W motor, with five power-assistance levels selectable through the integrated bike computer, which also acts as a speedo and odometer.

Because the battery is integrated into the frame, the bike is much lighter than many e-bikes, at just 17kg in total.

If integrated batteries are not your thing and you need to remove the battery to take it away from the bike to charge, then Leitner have a good range of other e-bikes in all designs you could need, including step-through, step-over and folding bikes.

But the most amazing thing about the Ultimate Midstep bike is that, at $1559, it is one of the most expensive of the Leitner range. Other models start as low as $1279.
