Dr Fiona Beck will focus on hydrogen production methods, as well as the implications for cost and emissions. Fiona is an Associate Professor at the ANU School of Engineering and research lead for the Facilitating Transformation Program. Her research focuses on the opportunities and challenges in transitioning the global energy system from fossil fuels to renewable energy. She has over 15 years’ experience developing novel technologies for solar energy conversion, including the production of renewable fuels and commodities like hydrogen. | |
Professor Geoff Brooks will talk about some of the developments using hydrogen in manufacturing “green” steel, along with the potential for industry to expand steel recycling. These developments are closely linked to increased demand for renewable energy. He will also touch on the prospects of the steel industry reaching net zero by 2050. Geoff has published over 300 papers on fundamental aspects of iron and steelmaking and worked closely with steel companies in Europe, Asia and North America. He is currently the Joint Swinburne/CSIRO Professor of Sustainable Mineral Processing and is a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. |
