Presentation:

David Knights is an environmental engineer with more than 16 years experience in sustainable water management, waterway restoration and green infrastructure currently working for McGregor Coxall. He has been developing Water Sensitive Urban Design strategies and green infrastructure designs for various clients throughout Australia and internationally. He has been involved in all levels of Green Infrastructure Design from strategic planning and conceptual design to construction.

Talk summary: Our talk will look at the practical measures that you can take at household-scale with a particular focus on designing and installing rainwater tank systems.

  • Understanding rainwater tanks and their use and function in the landscape
  • Key things to consider including maintaining water quality and meeting health requirements
  • The three basic rules of rainwater tanks; size, roof area and what to connect to
  • Practical design considerations (pumps, plumbing, etc.)

EnergyLab is about a 15-minute walk from either Redfern Station or Central Station. Entry to the premises is through a metal gate with access to a 2-storey sandstone building along a driveway towards the rear of the property.

Buckland St., Chippendale is well-serviced with buses including the 412, 413, 422, 423, 426, 428, 431, 433, 436, 438, 439, 440, 461, 470, 480, 483, L23, L28, M10, M30. Bicycles can be safely locked inside the building. Parking is limited in the area although Broadway Shopping Centre offers a nearby option.

Tea, coffee and tasty snacks are available before and after the talk, with donations gratefully accepted. As we have paid an NGO rate for the EnergyLab space, a $5 donation would be appreciated.
