Details:

The Renew Hunter Region Branch is trying something different for this month. We have decided the October meeting will be replaced with a visit to Callicoma Hill Eco-cabins.

On the tour, you’ll hear about the community’s experiences over 25 years of off-grid sustainable building and living. The tour will be of interest to anyone building or renovating a house, wanting a sustainable lifestyle, or curious about how off-grid living works in practice. Callicoma Hill Eco-cabins is in the forest 50km north of Singleton at Mt Royal. It is 2 hours from Newcastle, on the edge of the Barrington Tops region, close to the Gondwana Rainforest Reserves World Heritage Area. The tour will include explanations of principles underpinning the design and construction of the buildings along with: relationship to site, design for climate, energy efficient design, solar energy & technology, mud brick, hot water heating, water supply and wetland wastewater treatment, healthy materials and insulation, comfort, minimising maintenance, and how to balance life & building.

We hope to see you there,

Alex Mills, Interim Convenor
Renew Hunter Region Branch
