Electric Vehicle Expo this Saturday!

The latest electric cars, bikes and scooters plus much more at the Electric Vehicle Expo in Melbourne.

The new Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq and Renault Zoe and Kangoo ZE will be on display and available for test rides at the Electric Vehicle Expo 2019 to be held at the Melbourne International Karting Complex this Saturday, March 16.

The largest electric vehicle event in Australia, the Expo will showcase the latest electric cars, bikes, scooters and other vehicles. It will include more than 40 exhibitors of EVs, electric charging infrastructure and EV-related organisations as well as 11 inspiring speakers.

Speakers will include Wiebe Wakker, who has driven his electric car 70,000km from the Netherlands to Australia to demonstrate that EVs can travel long distances, and SolarTuk, a team of young Australians who have made and driven their own solar-powered rickshaw.

In its sixth year, the Electric Vehicle Expo 2019 is organised by Renew, Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisation promoting sustainable living, and sponsored by Evolution and Bank Australia.

Donna Luckman, CEO of Renew, said 6000 people attended the Expo in 2018 and more were expected this year.

“We have definitely reached a turning point in the general public’s awareness and interest in electric vehicles. Record numbers at last year’s Expo showed this,” Ms Luckman said.

“It’s very heartening that Australia is finally starting to join European countries and parts of the US in embracing electric transport. Car manufacturers are beginning to offer cheaper electric cars available to more people.

“Electric vehicles are more environmentally friendly, they are the way of the future and the Electric Vehicle Expo is all about embracing and celebrating them.”

Buy your tickets to the Expo. Tickets are $10, free for anyone 17 years and under.

At the Expo, you’ll be able to:

  • Test drive new cars on the track and go for a ride on the road in privately-owned EVs
  • Test ride an electric bike, trike, skateboard and more on the small vehicle track
  • Get advice from the many exhibitors
  • See a range of individually built vehicles entered into the Show N Shine competition
  • Listen to speakers throughout the day.
