For our October meeting, Renew Sydney Central will have the pleasure of hosting two highly qualified speakers from the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) who will give us some insights into the broad range of energy and energy efficiency programs that the State Government is currently running.

Speakers:

Raj Mahanama – Program Delivery Manager (Energy Programs)

Raj Mahanama currently serves as the Program Delivery Manager at the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE). He has been with the NSW Government for the past three years. During his tenure he has managed key government energy initiatives and programs including the closure of Solar Bonus Scheme, the National Green Power Accreditation Program and the $20 million Regional Community Energy Fund. He is currently managing the implementation of $15 million Solar for Low Income Households Trial. Prior to joining the government, Raj has worked in large-scale solar development. He was the client side project manager for $35 million 13 MW Mugga Lane Solar Park in ACT. Raj received his PhD and Master’s in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney and he is also a Project Management Professional certified project manager by the Project Management Institute (USA).

Jesslyn Ireland – Senior Project Officer (Energy Programs)

Jesslyn Ireland currently serves as the Senior Project Officer at the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. She is currently leading the implementation of $15 million Solar for Low Income Households Trial in Raj’s team. Jess has been with the NSW Government for 6 years in senior regulatory, policy and stakeholder engagement roles with an environmental and industry focus. Jess has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and diploma in project management. Due to her personal interest and given that it’s such an exciting period of change in the energy space, she has facilitated her own transition into renewables and clean energy program delivery.

Our events are held at EnergyLab, the home for energy innovation in Australia. From 6.00pm there is networking and refreshments with the talk starting at 6:30pm and finishing at 7:30pm.

EnergyLab is at 4-12 Buckland St, Chippendale NSW and is about a 15-minute walk from either Redfern or Central Station. Entry to the premises is through a metal gate with access to a 2-storey sandstone building along a driveway towards the rear of the property.

Buckland St., Chippendale is well-serviced with buses including the 412, 413, 422, 423, 426, 428, 431, 433, 436, 438, 439, 440, 461, 470, 480, 483, L23, L28, M10, M30. Bicycles can be safely locked inside the premises. Parking is limited in the area although Broadway Shopping Centre offers a nearby option.

Tea, coffee and tasty snacks are available before and after the talk, with donations gratefully accepted. As we have paid an NGO rate for the EnergyLab space, a $5 minimum donation would be appreciated.

This event is being hosted by the Australian Electric Vehicle Association who presented at our July meeting. It is being held at the Sydney Showground at Sydney Olympic Park.
