Presentation: Australia’s Transport Dilemmas
We all rely on a functional transportation system every day, either to transport ourselves around, or goods and services we use daily. However, Australia has a number of serious problems with its provision of energy for transport, and the structure of the transport system. It has a very high level of dependency on imported oil from politically unstable regions, with very little strategic reserves, significant and increasing greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector (19% of total emissions), large distances to shift goods, and a highly car and truck dependent transport sector. Does Australia have a Transport Plan that comprehensively addresses these issues? Or are we flying blind? Are EVs the solution? This presentation will examine these issues and offer solutions. This talk is particularly relevant due to increased conflict in the Middle East and the detention of oil tankers by Britain and Iran.
Speaker: Trevor Berrill is a Sustainable Energy Systems engineer and educator with over 40 years’ experience in renewable energy and energy efficiency. He is currently the Brisbane Convenor for Renew. For more details about Trevor, see www.trevolution.com.au
